INFORMED BY EXPERIENCE.
In my experience, I’ve found that in constantly working on defining myself I risk losing sight of everything I can become. However, getting lost in “everything I can become” I’ve always managed to lose sight of the work I’ve done, and all the work ahead. This has made me grab onto trivial people and experiences outside of myself in hopes that it will bring me some stability in my quest for this definition, that I’ve found to be anything but freeing. I’ve discovered that freedom is the ability to approach my life with no expectations, and only then was I able to take control of these subconscious findings and turn them into the foundation of the ever-evolving definition of myself as human.
GUIDED BY KNOWLEDGE.
We, as people, have been so caught up in the politics of everyday life that we’ve lost sight of the one thing we all have in common: WE ARE HUMAN. It’s not idealist to say! That simple fact remains regardless of gender, sexuality, the color of your skin, the community you come from, whether you believe in evolution or creationist theories; only one thing is for certain, WE ARE A PRODUCT OF OUR SURROUNDINGS. As a result, we are here on earth because it needed us: to cultivate it, to grow; and to learn from the it as well as each other. WE ARE CREATORS! Of memories and experiences that shape us if we allow them to penetrate our souls. Just look around at the incredible world we’ve built - let us not forget that it was built on love and community; on strapping on your boots to come together and create something greater than yourself. History proves as the blueprint for how evolution, revolution and change is possible...but
WHY HAVE WE NOT EVOLVED
OUR APPROACH TO CHANGE?
INSPIRED BY LOVE.
You see, CHANGE IS MADE BY CHOICES. Millions and millions of consequential choices that lead towards a greater shift in thought and ideas. New media and the age of transparency has allowed us to grasp the concept that crazy change is possible, along with the false notion that true change can happen over night. It’s not so simple. As aware as we’ve become and as quickly as the idea of “change” can go viral these days, it flashes in the pan twice as fast. Let’s face it: lasting change is a thing of the past. We constantly find ourselves at a crossroads; looking outward instead of inside ourselves; beginning to externalize our causes and the emotions we hold dear by throwing them out into the ether, which doesn’t do anything except confuse the true path to change. WE NEED SOMETHING REAL TO STAND BEHIND. More important, we have a duty to the younger generations to show them that PEOPLE ONLY HAVE AS MUCH POWER AS WE GIVE THEM, including ourselves. This past election has opened our wounds and put a spotlight on the dark side of social media, setting the stage for how it’s entirely possibly to awaken humanity by evoking anger.
